Landscape @ 403
The landscape proposal for Villa 403 involves a continuation of the design language envisioned for the interiors of the house. For this design language, brick walls and broken flooring has been used across the design. The vertical course exposed brick walls have been inclined at an angle to create a sense of direction for the users. One at the entrance keeps the house away from the public gaze from the road and the other at the deck creates privacy from the service area. The bigger plants have concrete rings to act as the edge, again a continuity of the arch seen in the ground floor. The set back of 6’-6’’ also allowed a small water body with a concrete planter emerging from the lotus pond with a tulsi plant, a plant the family has come along worshipping. The living area also extends out into the walkway with a French door as the threshold. A deck has been created with a glass roof to enhance this extended living space. The kitchen opens out into the corridor to a service area with a sit down wash area and gas bank. A part of the walkway has gravel with stepping stones which enhances the sensorial navigation around the house. The compound wall has a jaali placed atop it to provide privacy from neighbor’s, without obstructing the flow of wind.
Overall the various elements, while creating an extension to the house with the design language of the interiors, creates a sensorial experience for one who as they traverse around the house. Each space has been carefully curated to extend the adjoining space’s function.
